Moldovan-Ukrainian border guards start joint border patrols


The heads of the border agencies of Moldova and Ukraine have signed a protocol on the organization of joint patrols of the Moldovan-Ukrainian border, the press service of the Southern Regional Department of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine told  on Wednesday.



The press service said that the protocol was signed on Wednesday at a meeting between Head of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine Mykola Lytvyn and Head of the Moldovan Border Guard Service at a section of the Odesa-Reni transit road, not far from the Mayaky checkpoint.
According to the document, joint border patrols will be carried out in order to prevent illegal border crossings outside checkpoints, counter illegal immigration and related crimes, detect and detain persons wanted by law enforcement agencies of Ukraine and Moldova, and share experience on state border protection.
To mark the occasion of the signing of the protocol, the sides also unveiled a memorial plaque.
